Back today and already missing Africa

Can’t belive this family trip is already over.

This week in Madagascar gave me so much. The happyness and the smiles of this simple people that appreciate every moment of the day, believing more in people and relations than in objects made me realize how superficial all our lives are.

Thank you so much for this post and the kind words you have for Malagasy people. I am Malagasy and was born and raised in Madagascar, very proud of my fellow countrymen that you enjoyed your trip there. Madagascar needs tourists like you who really appreciate what our country has to offer despite being poor and simple.
    And very nice photos :)

Hi Mira!!!! So nice from you to live this comment!
I have so so so enjoyed Madagascar! It’s such a wonderful place and the people are so nice and friendly! Where are you living now?

This comment blows my mind, and NOT in a good way. You’re from Madagascar, and you’re thanking someone who isn’t a part of your culture for seeing the good in it despite the “poor and simple” people??? Seriously?!
You really ought to be ashamed of yourself, both of you. It is so typical of tourists, especially Europeans and Americans, to visit a developing country, calling its people “simple” and wondering how they ever have smiles on their faces despite the pitiful state of their country. It’s unbelievably insulting, please realize that. I’m Cameroonian, and I can’t stand to see American and European tourists say those incredibly racist things about my country and people. Madagascar doesn’t need tourists from Europe and America– what it needs is for the American and European governments and the institutions they control (IMF, World Bank) to stop robbing it of its bountiful natural resources, leaving its people destitute when they ought to be living in abundance.
